NC Sheriffs Association Undergraduate Criminal Justice Scholarships

Awards are offered annually to full-time North Carolina resident undergraduates majoring in criminal justice, one for each UNC constituent institution that has a criminal justice degree program.

First priority in selection is given to the son or daughter of a sheriff or deputy sheriff or any law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. Second priority is given to a son or daughter of any sheriff or deputy sheriff who is deceased, retired (regular or disability), or is currently active in North Carolina law enforcement. Third priority is given to any resident criminal justice student meeting the institution's academic and financial need criteria. The state institutions eligible to participate in the criminal justice program are: Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Western Carolina University.

These nonrenewable awards are valued at $2,000 each ($1,000 per semester). Ten awards are made per year. These scholarships are administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

Applications may be obtained from the Office of Financial Aid (FAO) at your eligible institution. Applicants must submit a completed application, official transcript, and a statement of career goals to the sheriff of the county in North Carolina where he or she permanently resides and request a letter of recommendation. These materials should be sent by the sheriff's office to the FAO. Applicants of the scholarship are nominated by the FAO and sent to NCSEAA for processing. NCSEAA forwards the application materials to NC Sheriff's Association for recipient selection. NCSEAA will notify recipient of the award.
