Health, Science, and Mathematics Student Loan (HSM) Careers

EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2013 MEDICAL, ALLIED HEALTH, AND NURSING BORROWERS MAY QUALIFY FOR LOAN FORGIVENESS BY WORKING IN ANY HEALTH CARE DELIVERY POSITION IN NORTH CAROLINA THAT PROVIDES MEDICAL SERVICES TO NORTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS.

This policy is effective July 1, 2013 and applies to employment performed on or after this date. There will be no refunds for employment performed prior to July 1, 2013.

Medical Careers

A borrower may repay his/her HSM loan by working full-time in any health care delivery position that provides medical services to North Carolina residents.

Allied Health Careers

A borrower may repay his/her HSM loan by working full-time in any health care delivery position that provides medical services to North Carolina residents.

Nursing Careers

A borrower may repay his/her HSM loan by working full-time in any health care delivery position that provides medical services to North Carolina residents.

Science and Math Careers

A borrower may repay his/her HSM loan by working fulltime as a teacher or computer science personnel in any public school or public postsecondary educational institution in North Carolina.

Veterinary Medicine Careers

A borrower may repay his/her HSM loan by working full-time as a veterinarian whose practice includes large/food animal and equine medicine; a laboratory animal resource veterinarian; or a full-time research veterinarian in North Carolina.
