Additional Opportunity Scholarships Awarded
Families must respond by May 17, 2024.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RALEIGH, NC (April 29, 2024) – On April 26th, Opportunity Scholarship award offers were sent to the families of 2,294 new students in Award Tier 2 for the 2024-2025 school year. Funding was not sufficient to award scholarships to all new students in Award Tier 2. Opportunity Scholarship award offers to families of 13,511 new students in Award Tier 1 were previously sent on March 29th.
Additionally, award offers were sent to the families of 958 new students notifying them that their student has been offered an Education Student Account (ESA+) Scholarship for children with disabilities.
Families awarded on April 26th have until May 17, 2024, to accept or decline the award offer. Families must log into their MyPortal account, go to their To-Do List, and click on “Respond to Award Offer.” Families can also see notifications in their MyPortal account. Award offers that are not accepted by May 17th will expire.
There was not sufficient funding available to award all new families that applied for the Opportunity Scholarship and ESA+ programs for the 2024-2025 school year. To award remaining new students, there would need to be additional funding appropriated to the programs.
Families who need more information should visit the Opportunity Scholarship or ESA+ pages on the NCSEAA website, or call 855-330- 3955.
The Opportunity Scholarship program was created by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013. Scholarships are awarded based on a family’s household income and can be used to pay the required tuition and fees to attend an eligible private school.
North Carolina’s Education Student Accounts (ESA+) program is available to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Funds may be used to pay tuition and fees for eligible private schools, and for expenses such as speech therapy, tutoring services, and educational technology.
